May 2026 Newsletter

A bidet, helping HEROES, and getting your kids to sleep. Random notes of encouragement below, as many of us embark on Manic May.

The 2020FIT team

I was reminded last month that it feels incredibly good to laugh (look closely at the top row of that photo). This little prank was put on by Eric, and it took me 28 days to figure it out. Upon doing so, I had a laugh I hadn't had in some time. Gosh, that felt good.

Speaking of which, I recently read that optimists live longer. Maybe it's because they're not willing to accept reality, or that they look at life with rose-colored glasses. Either way, it's something worth keeping in mind as you approach this amazing thing we call life.

Have a great May, and please remember how amazing you feel after every time you get a workout in… :)

Hero Week — Sign Up Now

Hero Week

Hero Week is coming, and you can register ahead of time — which is exactly what I'd recommend.

A few things to know:

  • Lock in your sessions early. I'm doing 3 in advance.
  • Can't participate? Show your doctor's note, or donate instead and still support the cause.
  • Modify however you need to — just do the hard version for you.
  • Log your scores. That's how you earn your shirt, so start getting used to it now.

Some Things Worth Considering

  • Brondell Bidet — I had my first bidet experience at 20 years old in Rome. Never forgot it. Britni installed one in our house, and I've never looked back. I've recommended the Squatty Potty for years (still do) — this takes the whole experience to a new, and much cleaner, level.
  • BodyWell EMF Chip — my new phone was giving me a headache, so I dug back into the whole EMF world. Put one of these on my phone and my laptop. Headache gone. Placebo or not, I'm sold.
  • Kids' Sleep Supplement — LIFE CHANGING. Please don't tell me there's something toxic in these, as they've been a game-changer to get the Rowley boys to fall asleep at night.
  • Notes on Being a Man (Scott Galloway) — dads, we all need to step it up. This read (thanks, Ali) is great fuel for any fella who wants to be the best dad he can be.
  • Comfort = Chronic Disease — a teaser of a recent podcast I enjoyed with Gary Brecka & Dr. Moss, plus a keen reminder that muscle = your health bank account.

Zone 2: The Simple Version

I get asked about this a lot from the podcast sphere, so here's my simple Zone 2 philosophy.

Breathe through your nose and do hard stuff. That's it.

If you can do that, you're almost certainly in Zone 2 — no heart rate monitor required. It applies to class, weightlifting, running, and anything else that challenges you.

Most people's cardio suffers because their breathing is a mess. Fix the breathing, fix the cardio.

And yes — tape your mouth when you sleep. Use this — $9.
