Why HYROX

Why HYROX? We’re in a really good position in that we have the freedom to do whatever is best for our clients. I’ve long said that if riding a stationary bike is the best thing for one’s health, we would fill our building with bikes and do nothing but.

Fortunately that is not the case.

You’re going to be seeing a lot of changes with our programming in the coming weeks and months and one of those changes is what’s going on with HYROX - a new class we’re offering. These are my words and not what you’ll get off the website:

In my opinion, it’s what CrossFit should have done a long long time ago. Create a uniform (simple) competition that is the same year over year so we can all test our fitness and not necessarily our skill levels.

As those things take time, and like you, I only have an hour per day (if I’m lucky) to spend time working out - much less focusing extra time on complex movements. HYROX was designed to be a uniform fitness competition (“The World Series of Fitness”). One that is incredibly approachable to the general population of fitness enthusiasts. The event is the same every time. You know the weights and the distances. And they are all things that you can do in our gym on a daily basis to get prepared. All movements we already do with regularity.

As much as we try and get everyone to leave our egos at the door - this is easier said than done. Right now we’re structuring it as a 90 minutes class that is a great method of training for those looking to build stamina, muscular endurance and are looking for a style of training that is less skill intensive. Read: There is not much to think about, you just have to get to work. It won’t make you the strongest person in the world but it will certainly improve your overall conditioning and not make you weaker.

For more information about what the actual event is - check it out here.

There are not a ton of them yet but this is about to blow up in the United States as it has elsewhere in the world.

**NOTE - you don’t have to compete for it to be worth it. whether you’d ever consider going to one of these events or not, it’s further creates a reason to train as you can do the event here at the gym to know where you stand (I’ve been doing it every Wednesday for the last 6 weeks), without taking into consideration skills that usually requiring nurturing to participate in CrossFit style competitions.

As we go along you’ll be seeing more and more HYROX classes on the calendar which I’m excited to share with others as the weekly sessions I’ve been doing certainly need to be enjoyed by others. :) Excited to sweat it out with you!
