Whats Going Down At The Farm

We've been up to a lot at the farm the last couple of years so I figured it was a decent time for an update. Part of the reason I've gone silent is the business model completely changed, as can happen, from the initial game plan on day 1.

What we figured out quickly is that to get the farm to a place where we could enjoy it, while our kids are still young enough to WANT to go out there, we had to at least have a working toilet for the Ms. Britni and the ladies. :)

So 18 months ago we pivoted to creating a membership-based farm where families are able to buy in for a fraction of what an entire farm would cost, get to access it for their recreation whether it's riding around on go karts, fishing, spending the weekend at the house or coming out to hunt - all without having to worry about the maintenance or upkeep which it turns out is a full time job.

Long story short - We now have a place that is becoming a working farm but also somewhere for farm members to be able to come out and play, let their kids get their hands dirty and away from screens or organized activities.

No shortage of fun for the kiddos (and adults)

It's been a dream of mine since moving to Kansas (heck before that even) to have our own herd of cattle to help build the soil and provide some delicious and healthy meat (if interested - please get on the list here).

I'm of the mindset that we should know where our food comes from and this is happening now right before our eyes. It's a slow process as grass-fed regenerative animals take 24 months to mature but with our partners the Panos, we're in it for the long haul. And our kids will have no shortage of chores when them come out! That said - we do have plenty of fun, too!

Whether it's putting up birdhouses, riding around on mini bikes, or just getting lost in the woods, this place is all about the KIDS! I love watching them get out of the car, look around confused for about 30 seconds, and then next thing you know they're on top of the mulch pile, running down to the creek, or up into the woods.

Brit and I notice every time how well the boys get along with each other when they're at the farm. And also how tired they are when we get on the road...

Some projects over the last year include the full remodel of the 100+-year-old farmhouse, building roads, getting set up for cattle, building a bunk house, and getting our garden started.

We remodeled the house, built some driveways, built a gate and started a garden

Though we make the kids do some work every time they are out (and they love it!), we still save time for play. Whether it's a late night hike in the woods, or building a bon fire that might not be totally appropriate, or teaching gun safety - it's a blast to see the kids creativity and them learning skills that will benefit them the rest of their lives.

And we like to light things on fire :)
